Full Moon Rising
What a supermoon (and a disco crystal) taught me about letting go of labels
Thursday night was the last super moon of the year, and I had every reason to keep working.
But instead, I shut the laptop and walked to a friend’s apartment to do a full moon ritual.
This might come as a surprise to some of you.
The biohacking health coach... pulling tarot cards?
I know. I feel the tension of these conflicting forces.
But like many of us, I carry a lot of labels.
New Yorker. Efficiency addict. Health optimizer. Art lover. Sensualist. Intuitive.
And I believe part of the beauty of being human is holding the paradox:
I can optimize my calendar and still believe in divine timing.
That said, it can be hard to let go of how we define ourselves — even when those definitions are no longer useful. Or, evolving from behavior that’s worked for us until now.
Moon Ritual Meets Strategy Session
My friend and I start our ritual with each of us sharing reflections on the year behind and our hopes for the one ahead.
2025 was my first full year transitioning from a wellness CMO to a health optimization coach. I describe launching my revenue streams like turning on a series of faucets: 1:1 coaching, group classes, corporate workshops, speaking gigs and brand partnerships.
Thankfully, all of them worked. But, it was a lot of effort. The resistance I felt came from the relentless pace I sustained to make it happen.
For 2026, I want to focus on more ease and flow — how do I turn it up without burning out?
With that intention I pull a card from The Untamed Elemental, my favorite oracle deck by LA artist Tasya van Ree.
Waterfall. Of course. Nothing says unstoppable flow like Niagara Falls, right?
“Waterfall says that nothing is permanent, and so grasping is pointless. All we have to do is let go.”
That message landed because as start-up founders, we care so much that we are often gripping on for dear life.
Just as I’m digesting that lesson, my very witchy friend starts lining the table with all of her tokens, crystals, and candles. It’s an impressive set-up.
“Pick one, “ she says.
I meet her with a blank stare (still very much in my analytical brain).
Me: ”I’m not really a crystal person. I don’t know what they mean.”
“That’s fine,” she replies. “Maybe one will pick you.”
Of all the rocks, I pick up the shiny, jagged metallic one and quietly nickname it, the Disco Crystal.
Turns out, it’s pyrite, also called, “Fool’s Gold.” A symbol of ambition, wealth, and innovation. Said to attract financial prosperity and ignite creative thinking. Money magnetism? Yes please.
Waterfall reminds me to loosen my grip and let go of the outcomes I’m overly attached to.
Pyrite reminds me to use discernment in my ambition to create space for what’s truly aligned.
A sharp lesson for someone who proudly identifies as a high performer: I don’t need force to build momentum.
If I want next year to be more prosperous and flowing, I have to stop gripping my goals so tightly and stay open to receiving the gifts that don’t need to be earned.
Less metrics. More magic.
I see examples of holding on too tightly every day.
Clients arrive with introductions that double as identities:
I’m the type that can’t slow down.
I always hit my goals.
I have a fragile constitution.
These labels can be grounding, even aspirational. But they can also trap us in versions of ourselves we’ve outgrown.
Why? Because it can be harder to let go of an old pattern than it is to start a new habit.
That’s the tension that we all live in.
Sometimes we need to live in the liminal.
That uncertain space between what worked and what’s next.
It’s uncomfortable, yes. But wildly revealing — if you’re willing to pause long enough to notice what’s shifting.
And, maybe, to let it happen.
You’re Not Stuck, Just Between Selves
If you’re in that space, reworking your routine or feeling a new rhythm for 2026 — I’d love to help you navigate what’s next.
My Wellness Audit is designed for this kind of clarity work. It’s a practical review meets an identity reset.
We’ll look at what wants to shift and what the most vibrant version of you might actually need right now.
No crystals required.
(But if one picks you, let me know.)

Ha! A disco crystal! I love it. What is the deck you all were using?
