Snack Time | April 2025
Have GLP-1's killed snacking? Skinny gets a reframe, decoding your DEXA scan, misting your muff and a very fancy biohacking bed.
Happy Sunday!
It dawned on me this morning that my recurring monthly round-up is called Snack Time as a metaphor for bite-sized wellness intel and not once have I talked about actual snacks. But last week, the universe (aka Instagram) served up a snack-related headline too irresistible to ignore.
The Wall Street Journal reported that, “something strange is happening to the American diet: People just aren’t reaching for cookies and pretzels the way they used to.”
Once the fastest growing category in packaged foods — thanks in no small part to Big Food’s lab-engineered “little treats” designed for peak palatability and addictiveness — snacks are now on the decline.
Is it a surge in collective willpower? Not exactly. This would be a good time to remind everyone that our biology has been hijacked by processed food, sedentary behavior and toxins in our environment so we are not entirely to blame. According to WSJ, this dip in snack sales has been affected by the new wave of GLP-1 drugs that are quietly curbing our appetites, flipping the script on food culture1.
Let’s pause and digest what this actually means. For the first time in decades, the snack food industrial complex has met its match, and it’s not kale chips. We cannot deny the efficacy of these GLP-1’s when done properly. Maybe Americans are also waking up, fueled by the protein movement, influenced by MAHA mom groups, squeezed by rising costs, and, yes, supported by appetite suppressing meds.
'“In 2023…the country’s obesity rate declined from 44.1% to 43.96%.”
— JAMA Health Forum
As a health coach, I focus on root causes, not just quick fixes. But I’m not anti-medicine. We’re facing both an obesity epidemic and a metabolic crisis — one that affects people of all sizes and ages.
Yes, we desperately need to fix our food system but we also need every other tool available including movement, medication, and mindset. And we need to redefine what health actually looks like.
So with that, let’s get into this month’s Snack Time which continues this conversation.

Skinny ≠ Healthy
This recent Mel Robbins podcast episode with board certified endocrinologist Dr. Rocio Salas-Whalen is a great beginner class for anyone who wants to understand the multi-factorial causes of obesity and how GLP-1’s work. They dig into two of the biggest myths in wellness: that obesity is a self-inflicted condition and that “skinny” is a synonym for “healthy.” Spoiler — it’s not.
The goal is body composition, not just body size. Listen to episode 281 and let me know where you stand in this heated debate.
Decode Your DEXA Scan
Next month, I’m launching a class to teach you how to read your DEXA scan, one of the most powerful health tools we have to assess longevity. It’s everything I teach my private clients: how to optimize body composition by analyzing body fat (including visceral fat), lean tissue and bone density.
Knowing your numbers isn’t about chasing aesthetics, it’s about getting strong, lean, and metabolically resilient for the long haul. And, it’s critical for anyone serious about fitness, going through menopause or on a GLP-1 medication.

A Mist for Your Muff
I’m on a mission to make vulvas a trending topic, but let’s face it: people still squirm at proper anatomical language. My friends at Plum are here to normalize the conversation. Vaginal dryness is completely normal (and more common than you think), but it can seriously mess with comfort and confidence.
Plum’s Cleansing + Hydrating Mist is a gentle, micellar spray for those on-the-go moments. Throw it in your gym bag or just on your bathroom shelf. For busy women who do not have time for stigma (or dryness).
A Most Productive Nap
Proper Hotels is the latest hotel group to move into longevity with the introduction of the Ammortal Chamber, that features a PEMF, multi-wavelength red light therapy bed that comes with vibroacoustic sound, molecular hydrogen and guided breathwork at their Santa Monica property. If you’ve ever fantasized about checking into a hotel and coming out with upgraded mitochondria, this is for you.
The future of hotel amenities? Or just a very fancy nap? Either way, sign me up.
"misting your muff" is the alliterative soundbite I didn't know I needed. As usual, charming and informative.
I am forever psyched to receive your wealth of knowledge. I have yet to hear this podcast episode so bookmarking now…
