Snack Time | May 2025
Is vaginal estrogen the female Viagra? Oura now tracks your snacks, ditch your phone alarm, cauliflower's hidden powers, activewear minus the microplastics.

Old friends are the best friends, and so are the ones who show up in the pouring rain.
Last week in New York I hosted a gathering of incredible women, some that I’ve known for over 20 years. It was a night of movement and meaningful conversation with Plum Vagiceuticals centered around women’s health and intimate skincare at the chic studio of Live The Process.

What emerged from our vulnerable chat, besides a good laugh about how vulvas are trending, was something deeper — the universal desire for women to be heard and have their needs met.
I write a lot about menopause on this Substack but this isn’t just content for women in midlife. Every partner, friend, colleague and adult child is touched by the emotional, physical and relational shifts that this monumental chapter brings.
In my practice, I’m most focused on healthy aging which is a landscape we’re all navigating, regardless of gender. I’m confronting ageism, investing in vitality and refusing to normalize suffering as the cost of getting older.
Which brings us to the often overlooked but foundational piece of the longevity conversation: hormones. They govern so much from our mood and memory to muscle mass and sexual health — so why are we so reluctant to address them as a first line treatment?
Less than 5% of women are on menopause hormone therapy and it’s costing most than just their quality of life. It’s costing them years of life. (JAMA)
This month’s Snack Time kicks off with one of the most illuminating podcast episodes I’ve heard on the subject of how hormones increase lifespan that EVERYONE needs to listen to.

Hormones as the longevity tool
It’s not every day that Dr Peter Attia gets his mind blown and breaks into laughter on his otherwise serious, science-heavy podcast. Dr. Rachel Rubin, a urologist who proudly calls herself a quality-of-life doctor, reminds us that all humans are testosterone-driven beings and reframes hormone therapy as essential medicine for your brain, bones and sex life. She makes the billion-dollar case for vaginal estrogen to extend lifespan and compares the efficacy of this treatment for women to that of Viagra in terms of tissue health, blood flow and pleasure!
Listen to episode #348 of The Drive to learn how to optimize your hormones during menopause and andropause (male menopause!).

Rise and Shine
Instead of rise and scroll, in my case. As I shared in my morning routine, I’m attempting to break one of my worst habits which happens the second I touch my phone. This clock has a two-phase alarm that is more aligned with your body’s natural waking process. Alarm one is gentle to rouse you while alarm two gets you out of bed. There are also guided meditations for added support.
How you wake up and wind down contributes to how good you feel throughout the day so maybe Loftie Clock is both the optimization tool and healthy distance you need from your phone.
Cruciferous Crush
You might think cauliflower is boring but it’s the quiet hero if you know how to cook this humble vegetable. Not only is it loaded with blood sugar friendly fiber and detox-supporting compounds, it’s the perfect low calorie vehicle for a savory, briny or creamy sauce like green goddess or tahini caper. And it caramelizes beautifully when roasted. The white ones are most common but the purple variety boast anthocyanins, the same antioxidants found in blueberries which have anti-inflammatory properties.

Sustainable Second Skin
Finding activewear without microplastics can be a challenge. Many better-for-you brands sacrifice performance by using non-technical fabrics that don’t wear or fit well when working out. Live The Process has nailed both stylish and sustainable, making it the fashionable uniform for the downtown wellness set.
I snagged the Malia Henley and Geometric 7/8 leggings (perfect for petite girls) before our class and love how they feel. Currently 30% off for Memorial Day. Robyn also curates a schedule of the best Pilates, yoga, sculpt and wellness classes in town. Book classes [here]
