What a lovely morning! The breadbox supplements are such a great idea- Having them right there next to a drink, reminding you to take them? So smart. I’m really curious to try adding Magic Mind to my routine. Even the best routine can use a boost!

Curious to get more insight on the BodyBio PC oil as it compares to something like MitoPure to support mitochondrial health. I certainly like the price point of BodyBio better and wondering if it is something I should switch to.

Celia Chen's avatar

Both of these supplements are for cellular optimization but in different ways. BodyBio PC oil targets cell membranes by repairing lipid bilayers which can help gut health, inflammation and brain fog.

Mitopure uses Urolithin A which recycles and renews mitochondria which can boost energy overall (including in the brain). It's better known for improving muscle strength/recovery.

I'd say if you are looking for a more affordable mitochondrial supplement, you could try MitoQ (mitoquinol coQ10) which protects existing mitochondria and good for combatting fatigue and supports heart health.

You are welcome to use my client dispensary for PC and MitoQ for 20% off. https://us.fullscript.com/welcome/chenessawellness

Curious to learn how you typical store your tongue scraper? Or do you leave it out on the counter?

Celia Chen's avatar

Good question! I wash it off after use and then store inside my mirrored vanity in my bathroom. I have another one that is always in my toiletry bag in my carry-on! The Boka ones are small.

My newest favorite morning ritual is journaling for anywhere from 2-10 minutes before I turn my phone off airplane mode!

As a fellow Oura user with high readiness scores, I would love to see your HRV - mine is totally low (which is bad) but Id love your thoughts!

Expand full comment
Celia Chen's avatar

so from what I understand, there is no good HRV score, just one that is good for you. Meaning your high and low range is consistent with the resilience and responsiveness of your nervous system. It should rise and fall after stress. Wider range can suggest more resilience while chronically low could mean inflammation or metabolic dysfunction.

Morning routine is getting sunlight on my rooftop for 10 - 20 minutes and getting actual grounding by going out to a park but putting my barefeet on the grass!

Celia Chen's avatar

Living in cities we really don't touch the grass or ground enough! I often think this is a reason, among many, why we feel so much better on vacation because we are at the beach or on a ski hill closer to nature. Love that you start your day like this.

I recently started using mouth tape as well and have noticed I feel much more well-rested when I wake up in the morning. +1 for the matcha ritual! Taking a 20 minute walk with the dogs in the morning without earbuds, just enjoying the sunshine & birdsong, has been a very grounding way to start my days.

Mouth tape is definitely trending among my readers! Your morning routine makes me miss my cocker spaniel and those early morning walks, sometimes still in my PJs with a coat in thrown over during my NY days. Thanks for sharing. x

I'm an early riser, there's just something about the silence of the world in the early hours that is so energizing. After I put my kettle on, I step outside with my Insight Timer set to 5 minutes of stream sounds, do breathwork, and let the early light reach my eyeballs. By the time that's over, it's time for my coffee pour-over. I love mornings!

I really loved reading this. It’s such a grounded, thoughtful take on the pressure to “win the morning” and I completely agree, the best routines are the ones that actually work for you. We’re so happy to be included. The January Labs Day Cream is one of those products that quietly does the work... lightweight, calming, and perfect for setting up your skin (and mood) for the day ahead. I really resonated with the idea of softer mornings and the permission to tune in instead of powering through. Can’t wait to read more from The Morning Edit. xx

I loved reading your morning ritual as well as everyone else’s! Some non-negotiables: tongue scraping, acv or lemon in warm water before coffee (with collagen in it), and recently doing Qualia NAD+ and glutathione along with the usual D3K2!

I need to try Qualia but I hear great things about their quality. Love that you sneak collagen into your coffee!

I love the breadbox idea as well!

Splashing cold water on my face is the first thing I do in the morning. I once read in Ayurveda that it "stops the aging." Whether that is true or not, it is still a refreshing jump-start to the day.

"But we’re all wired differently." Key statement! The elaborate morning routines of wellness gurus I look up to can feel intimidating, but more importantly, counter to how my unique self feels best in the morning. Hydration, sunlight - yes all universally great things. But I have a brain that functions optimally in the wee hours of the morning, making computer work time on analysis or deep thinking the most productive for me! These AM routines would be best for me as a mid-morning break at 11am.

Yes!! We are all bio-individual. I still prefer to wake up slowly. Do two hours of light work then work out around 10/11am, which I'm able to do now that I work for myself. I often hop back on at 7pm to write when I'm most creative. I love that you know your best hours for deep thinking. Our hustle culture does not support our biology!

My morning routine: I rinse my face with cucumber cleansing oil, then some tongue scraping and quick brush before drinking a sparkling ginger Yerba Mate (currently a rtd brand called Tama). Then I take some perfect aminos. It’s time to get ready for movement (yoga, walking, Pilates and/or weight training on any given day). I eat a very small bit of protein or fat (one egg, one spoonful of cottage cheese + a bit of avocado). I’m not hungry in the am but I always work out so this is necessary…that’s it for the first hour of the day.
